Program Overview

The Pediatric Dental Residency Program at 消消消消消消消娼瞳 Childrens Hospital, Delaware is dedicated to preparing board-certified pediatric dentists to become leaders in providing pediatric dental care. Our graduates provide for the needs of their community and continue educating themselves, their colleagues, and the children and families they serve.

Educational Opportunities & Professional Growth

Our pediatric dentistry residency is a 2-year, CODA-accredited program in a hospital setting. We emphasize clinical proficiency and an interdisciplinary approach to treating children. Graduates of the program will receive a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and meet the advanced education eligibility requirements of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Our broad curriculum encompasses a combination of unique and traditional educational experiences. It provides residents with the opportunity to develop proficiency in comprehensive, preventive, and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through early adolescence, including those with special health care needs.

Seminars & Didactics

Residents participate in a mix of required dental, required medical, and elective medical seminars, as well as interdisciplinary sessions with medical residents and fellows. Formats include large-group lectures, interactive discussions, and small-group seminars. Topics and learning activities include:

  • Interdisciplinary participation in pediatric grand rounds and departmental lectures

Research & Scholarship

Residents complete a research project, present it in a scientific forum, and are encouraged to share findings at regional or national meetings. Research training and funding support are integrated into the program, with mentorship provided by faculty.

Central to our mission is the dental preventive clinic at 消消消消消消消娼瞳 Children's Health, Saint Francis (our primary care office at Saint Francis Hospital), an innovative program designed to integrate early oral health education into childrens medical homes. By offering preventive care and guidance in a familiar and convenient setting, the clinic helps families overcome common barriers to dental care, fostering early habits that promote lifelong oral health.

消消消消消消消娼瞳 Childrens Hospital, Delaware, sits on a scenic, 300-acre estate in Wilmingtons Brandywine Valley. Its the largest pediatric training site in our system, big enough to offer nearly every specialty, yet close-knit enough that faculty know their learners well. From the start, youll notice a culture built on collaboration, mentorship, and curiosity.

Hospital & Training Environment

Most of your training takes place at our childrens hospital in Wilmington, a nationally recognized destination for complex pediatric care. Its the states only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and home to a Level IV NICU, so youll see the full range of high-acuity cases.
